Scotland 'Mendip Migration' - April/May 2009

25th April - 3rd May

A number of cavers from all over the UK (primarily from the Mendip area) annually spend around a week at the Grampian Speleological Group Hut - Taigh nam Famh - which is in a lovely place called Elphin in the Assynt area of Sutherland. The plan is to explore and dig a few caves and wander up and down a few mountains, plus fit in a bit of sea diving, cave diving and whatever else might take people's fancy - usually a few beers at the two lovely local pubs to the caving area - the Inchnadamph Hotel and Altnacealgach Inn. Because of the nature of the caving trips, my camera didn't venture underground much, so only a few days worth of pictures to share.

27th April

Day trip up to Durness and Smoo Cave via a waterfall near Kylesku and calling into Lochinver on the way home.

28th April

Walk up Allt nam Uamh Stream valley to Allt nam Uamh Stream cave (ANUS). Few photos of the bone caves and inside ANUS cave and also the dig site at Toll Radain (rat hole).

30th April

Sunset view over Cul Mor and Suilvan from Taigh nam Famh.

2nd May

Entertaining seagulls at Ullapool with our fish and chips and then more digging at Toll Radain.

3rd May

Early start leaving Assynt behind - overnight there had been a dusting of snow on the mountains. The last picture is the GSG hut.
